Sanders: We shouldn’t sue gun makers because we don’t sue car makers

I understand Bernie Sanders’ reasoning for opposing lawsuits against gun makers. He argues, would you sue Ford if some nut used his Mustang to run down a bunch of people? Of course not.

But it’s not quite like that. Ford doesn’t make cars in quite the same way the gun industry makes — and markets — guns.

I would indeed sue Ford if the Ford Motor Company spent billions of dollars to make sure crazy people who run down pedestrians could buy more Fords, and that people should have the right to put razor sharp spikes on the front of their Fords to kill more people, and opposed any laws that try and keep crazy driver-killers from getting behind the wheel. Then yes, indeed, I would sue Ford.

And that’s what Bernie Sanders misses with his oversimplification of the argument.
