Santorum has a hard time explaining why he endorsed Rubio

Rick Santorum suspended his campaign yesterday, and immediately threw his support to Marco Rubio.

Santorum had a hard time this morning on “Morning Joe” explaining his endorsement.

Joe Scarborough asked Santorum to name Rubio’s top accomplishment.

“My feeling on Marco is someone who has tremendous potential, tremendous gifts,” Santorum said. “If you look at being a minority in the U.S. Senate in a year when nothing got — in four years when nothing got done, I guess it’s hard to say there’s accomplishments.”

When it was pointed out that Republicans took majority control of the Senate after the 2014 mid-term elections, Santorum still couldn’t come up with something definite.

Scarborough eventually grew exasperated and gave up.

But the real reason Santorum endorsed Rubio is obvious: The GOP establishment is rallying behind Rubio as its anointed candidate to take down Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. He’s the one the RNC sees as able to provide the biggest challenge to Hillary Clinton.

But the Republicans are hitching their wagon to a very inexperienced candidate who may be in way above his head. The RNC will be watching Rubio closely over the next few contests to see if he can handle it.
