Bernie Sanders is mounting a much stronger than expected challenge to Hillary Clinton in the early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire, but nationally, the picture is a little different.
Clinton leads Sanders by 25 points nationally ahead of tonight’s final Democratic debate and the Iowa caucuses, according to the latest results from the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.
Clinton is the first choice of 59 percent of Democratic primary voters, while Sanders gets the support of 34 percent. Martin O’Malley gets 2 percent.
It’s possible that a very strong debate performance from Sanders tonight could move the national polls in his favor, and the Clinton camp may be regretting its decision to hold fewer debates.
