Jon Stewart has signed on with HBO to produce short-form digital content, the cable outlet announced today, and the project is expected to go live early next year. HBO will also have first dibs on any television or film projects Stewart embarks on.
HBO already has a successful news spoof/commentary show from The Daily Show alum John Oliver, Last Week Tonight.
Stewart retired from hosting The Daily Show on Comedy Central in August.
Stewart didn’t say much about the deal with HBO, saying in a statement, “Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again.”
