Republicans have been working very hard the last few weeks to portray Hillary Clinton as out of touch with regular Americans, as if the GOP, the party of tax breaks for the ultra wealthy at the expense of the poor and the middle class, could do a better job.
The Republican media juggernaut of twisting Clinton’s comments about her family’s finances doesn’t seem to have moved the needle. However, the constant browbeating does appear to have hurt her approval ratings.
In an NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Annenberg poll published Sunday, 55 percent of Americans said Clinton understands the problems of average citizens as well as other potential 2016 presidential candidates, while 37 percent believe that she’s less able to do so.
Clinton’s overall favorability rating stands at just over 50 percent, down from nearly 60 percent during her tenure as Secretary of State.
