More young people aligning with Democrats

Trend: Party Affiliation Among Young Americans, Aged 18-29

A new Gallup poll just released Friday shows that more young people are aligning themselves with the Democratic Party. According to Gallup, the average gap in favor of the Democratic Party among young adults has been 18 percentage points over the last eight years. In 2013, 53 percent of young Americans identified with the Democratic Party or said they leaned Democratic while 35 percent aligned themselves with the Republican Party.

Meanwhile more senior citizens are identifying with the GOP.
